The native North Carolinian shot 68 in the final round at The Olympic Club to claim the 2012 U.S. Open in just his second start in the championship. The Wake Forest alum is a five-time PGA Tour winner, most recently capturing the 2018 Players Championship with an 18-under total of 270. His previous victory prior to The Players was the 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He also lost in a four-hole playoff to Hideki Matsuyama in the 2017 Waste Management Open. Prior to turning pro in 2008, Simpson was a member of the victorious 2007 USA Walker Cup Team as well as the Palmer Cup Team. He was a member of the 2012 and 2014 USA Ryder Cup teams and the 2011 and 2013 Presidents Cup teams.
