Birdied the final hole of his sectional qualifier at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla., and then survived a 3-for-2 playoff to earn his first U.S. Open start. Earlier this year, the 18-year-old from Chile became No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking by winning the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in Graniteville, S.C. Also was in a three-man playoff in the Latin American Amateur Championship in January, coming up short to countryman Toto Gana. Alvaro Ortiz of Mexico was also in the playoff. Won the Mexican Amateur on the eve of this year's U.S. Open. Has enrolled at the University of South Florida. Advanced to the Round of 32 in last year's U.S. Junior Amateur. Has already won two Chilean professional events this year. Advanced to the Round of 16 of last year's U.S. Amateur, where he lost to fellow 2017 U.S. Open qualifier Sahith Theegala. Has won the IMG Junior World Championship held at Torrey Pines each of the last two years.
