The Californian, who finally earned his first PGA Tour win at the Valero Texas Open in his 180th start on April 23, owns a pair of top-10 finishes in the U.S. Open, including a tie for third in his first appearance in 2011 at Congressional C.C. Previous to his victory in San Antonio, Chappell lost a three-way playoff (2011 U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy prevailed) in last fall's Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. He also was the runner-up in the 2016 Players Championship. At UCLA, he won the 2008 Jack Nicklaus Award as college golf's player of the year and was a three-time All-American for the Bruins, where he won three titles as a senior during the 2007-08 season. He was a member of the 2008 USA Palmer Cup Team. Chappell posted one victory on the Web.com Tour at the 2010 Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae.
