Shot 7-under 134 in the Surrey, England, sectional at Walton Heath Golf Club to earn his second U.S. Open start. He shot a first-round 65 to earn a share of the lead in the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St. George's, and it was the lowest round shot by an amateur in the championship's history. Wound up finishing tied for 30th and was the low amateur. Won the 2011 Portugal Masters for his only European Tour win to date. He was named the 2011 European Tour Rookie of the Year. Turned pro after helping the 2011 Great Britain and Ireland to victory at Royal Aberdeen.
