The Mexican-born Vazquez qualified for his first U.S. Open via the Memphis, Tenn., sectional, where he posted 8-under 135 at Ridgeway Country Club/Colonial Country Club. Advanced to sectional from the Knoxville, Tenn., local qualifier. Vazquez enjoyed a successful amateur career before turning professional in 2012. He won the Mexican Amateur in 2011 and 2012 and represented his country in the 2012 World Amateur Team Championship, where his side finished second behind the USA in Turkey. Vazquez was the low individual in the 72-hole competition. Owns a pair of victories on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica: the 2012 Puerto Rico Classic and the 2016 Mexico Open.
