The son of 1997 PGA champion and 2017 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Davis Love III will make his first U.S. Open start after getting into the field as the first alternate from the Ball Ground, Ga., sectional site. Won a 2-for-1 playoff for first alternate. Chipped in for eagle on his last hole at Hawks Ridge Golf Club to get into the playoff at 6-under 138. Joins the Alexander (Tyson, Buddy and Skip) and Herron (Tim, Carson, Carson) families as a three-generation U.S. Open competitor. Davis Love III played in 23 U.S. Opens, finishing tied for second in 1996, while his father, Davis Love Jr., qualified for seven. DL4, or Dru as family and friends call him, recently completed his eligibility at the University of Alabama, where a shoulder injury sidelined him for most of the 2016-17 season. Played alongside his famous father in the 2015 RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club near their residence in St. Simons Island, Ga. Earned his spot in the sectional by shooting a 69 in his local qualifier at Sawgrass Country Club.
