Became the first Englishman since 1911 to win the U.S. Amateur when he claimed the title in 2013 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. He spent one semester at Northwestern University before deciding to focus full-time on golf, turning professional in 2014. He won his first European Tour title in 2015 at the English Masters, and two more titles in 2016: the Nordea Masters just prior to last year's U.S. Open at Oakmont and the DP World Tour Championship-Dubai to end the European Tour season. Fitzpatrick became the first player since Bob Jones to hold low-amateur honors from The Open Championship (2013) conducted by The R&A and the U.S. Open Championship (2014). He was a member of the 2013 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup Team and the 2016 European Ryder Cup Team. His best finish in a major is a tie for seventh in last year's Masters.
