Thanks to a second-round 67 at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, Niebrugge will be playing his first U.S. Open just down the road from his family's residence in Mequon, Wis. Niebrugge finished the Lakewood, Wash., sectional qualifier with a 36-hole total of 2-under 140. As an amateur, Niebrugge won the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links to earn an invitation to the 2014 Masters, where he missed the cut. He also was the low amateur in the 2015 Open Championship at St. Andrews, finishing tied for sixth after earning a spot in the field via final qualifying at Hillside Golf Club. He represented the USA in the 2013 and 2015 Walker Cup Matches. He also teamed with 2017 U.S. Open qualifier Scottie Scheffler to win the men's competition at the 2013 Spirit International. He played four seasons at Oklahoma State, and two of his teammates were 2017 U.S. Open qualifiers Talor Gooch and Kevin Dougherty, whom he is paired with for the first two rounds. He also won the 2013 Western Amateur.
