Earned his spot in the field as the first alternate from the Memphis, Tenn., sectional, where he posted 7-under 136 at Ridgeway Country Club and Colonial Country Club. Two years ago at Oakmont Country Club, the Las Vegas, Nev., resident was solidly in the hunt for his major title until a couple of late bogeys pushed him into a share of second with Jim Furyk and Shane Lowry. He owns four PGA Tour victories, most recently the 2018 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner Billy Horschel. He also won twice on the Web.com Tour in 2008. Prior to 2016, his best major finish was a tie for fifth in the 2013 PGA Championship. Pierce played his college golf at San Diego State University.
