The native of Belgium and former University of Illinois standout will make his fourth U.S. Open start after being one of the top 60 points leaders in the Official World Golf Ranking on May 19. Detry registered his first PGA Tour victory at the WM Open at TPC Scottsdale on Feb. 9, shooting 24-under-par 260 to win by seven strokes. In 2020, Detry posted a pair of runner-up finishes to Sam Horsfield in the Hero Open and Celtic Classic on the European Tour (now DP World Tour). He also lost in a playoff at the 2021 Aberdeen Scottish Open (won by Min Woo Lee over Detry and Matt Fitzpatrick). His lone individual victory prior to the WM Open came on the European Challenge Tour in the 2016 Bridgestone Classic. He also teamed with countryman Thomas Pieters, who also is a former Illini standout, to capture the 2018 ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf. Detry enjoyed a decorated amateur career that included the 2016 Big Ten Championship. He also represented Europe in the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup, and represented Belgium in three World Amateur Team Championships (2010, 2012 and 2014).
