The native of Belgium and former University of Illinois standout will make his third U.S. Open start after being one of the top 60 points leaders in the Official World Golf Ranking on May 20. Detry vaulted into the top 60 thanks to a tie for fourth at the PGA Championship in May at Valhalla. Detry posted a pair of runner-up finishes to Sam Horsfield in the Hero Open and Celtic Classic in 2020. His lone individual victory came on the European Challenge Tour four years ago in the Bridgestone Classic. He also teamed with countryman Thomas Pieters, who also is a former Illini standout, to capture the 2018 ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf. Detry enjoyed a decorated amateur career that included the 2016 Big Ten Championship. He also represented Europe in the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup and represented Belgium in three World Amateur Team Championships (2010, 2012 and 2014).
