Barco is believed to be the first Peruvian golfer to qualify for a U.S. Open. Advanced out of local (Orange Tree Golf Club) and final qualifying (Dallas Athletic Club) to earn his place at Torrey Pines. At final qualifying, he survived a 10-for-1 playoff for the last spot, besting the likes of 2021 USA Walker Cup competitors John Pak and Austin Eckroat, and PGA Tour veterans Andres Romero and Scott Piercy. Barco played at Purdue University, where he graduated in 2017 with a degree in management and finance. Currently a member of PGA Tour Latinoamerica. He tied for third in the 2016 Latin America Amateur Championship in the Dominican Republic.
