Played on same LSU golf team with Bob Friend, Emlyn Aubrey, Perry Moss and 1985 U.S. Junior Amateur champion Gregory Lesher, all of whom spent some time on the PGA Tour

First-team All-America at LSU for 1988-89 season when he earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Year honors

Made 243-yard hole-in-one during the third round of the 2001 PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club to grab the lead; he eventually won the event by a stroke over Phil Mickelson

Owns 12 PGA Tour victories, the last coming at 2006 Sony Open in Hawaii

Member of 2002, 2004 and 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup teams and 2003, ’05 and ’07 Presidents Cup squads

Honorary captain at 2001 LSU-Tulane football game, where he participated in the pre-game coin toss; received a standing ovation from 90,000 fans at Tiger Stadium

Created David Toms Foundation in 2003 to help underprivileged, abandoned and abused children

Annual charity pro-am in Birmingham, Ala., has netted more than $400,000 for the Big Oak Ranch, a home for orphaned children

The Wall Street Journal cited in 2006 that the Toms Foundation as having the lowest percentage of expenses of any athletic foundation that gave a minimum of $600,000 to charity

Grew up playing baseball with future big-leaguers Ben McDonald and Albert Belle, both former LSU stars

Has dabbled in course design and his first signature course was Carter Plantation in Springfield, La., that opened to the public in 2003

Also worked with Rees Jones on the 18-hole course at Redstone that is used for the PGA Tour’s Shell Houston Open

Won Junior World Championship and PGA Junior Championship in 1984
