Tom posted 7-under 135 in the Memphis, Tenn., sectional qualifier at Ridgeway Country Club and Germantown Country Club to garner one of 10 available spots. Toms has had several near misses in the U.S. Open, finishing in the top-5 three times, including a tie for fifth at Oakmont in 2007. The 13-time PGA Tour winner became a major champion when he claimed the 2001 PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club. His son, Carter, plays golf at Louisiana State University, David's alma mater. Toms is a three-time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team and has been a four-time member of the U.S. Presidents Cup Team.
