Road to Oakmont:
2012 Open Championship winner
The two-time U.S. Open champion won his first title at Oakmont in 1994 when he defeated Loren Roberts and Colin Montgomerie in a playoff. Three years later, Els edged out Montgomerie again at Congressional Country Club. He enjoyed a late-career resurgence in 2012 when he won his second Open Championship conducted by The R&A at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, to go along with his 2002 title. Els owns 68 professional victories around the world and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. He has represented the World Team in eight Presidents Cups. In 1999, he established the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation to identify youths who show promise in the game, and is heavily involved with autism charity since his son, Ben, was diagnosed at age of 5.
