Earned a third U.S. Open start after getting into the field as the first alternate from the Columbus, Ohio, sectional, where he shot 5-under 139 at The Lakes Golf & Country Club and Brookside Golf & Country Club, and then outdueled eight other golfers in a playoff to earn first-alternate status. The left-hander collected his second PGA Tour victory in February at the AT&T National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach. His previous victory came in the 2012 Greenbrier Classic. He also posted two Nationwide Tour (now Web.com Tour) wins in 2011. Potter won 12 times on the NGA Tour and was named that circuit's Player of the Year in 2006 and 2009. Potter turned professional in 2002 after graduating from Lake Weir High School in Marion County (Fla.).
