Walton Heath Golf Club
Surrey, England • qualifying: Jun 04, 2018
For the 14th consecutive year, the Old and New courses at Walton Heath Golf Club in suburban London will serve as one of two international sectional qualifying sites. In 2005, the inaugural year of overseas qualifying, Michael Campbell emerged from the Walton Heath sectional and claimed the championship by two strokes over Tiger Woods.
Last year, Eddie Pepperell parlayed a tie for fifth into a share of 16th at Erin Hills before going on to post six top-10s on the European Tour and claiming his maiden victory on that circuit in late February of 2018.
This year's qualifier will feature veteran European Ryder Cup competitor Lee Westwood and three-time major champion Padraig Harrington. Several members of the 2017 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup Team are set to compete. That list includes Alfie Plant, Jack Singh Brar, Paul McBride, Jack Davidson, Scott Gregory and Connor Syme. Other notable professionals in the field include 2016 European Ryder Cup competitor Thomas Pieters, Nicolas Colsaerts, Sam Horsfield and Paul Dunne, who shared the 54-hole lead at the 2015 Open Championship. He was a member of the victorious 2015 GB&I Walker Cup Team at Royal Aberdeen.
The qualifying site annually attracts professionals from the European Tour as well as leading amateurs from the region.
The sectional is conducted by the European Tour with input from USGA officials.
