Ancer earned his first U.S. Open start and third overall major-championship appearance by being No. 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 20. He is coming off a tie for 16th in the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, which pushed his world ranking from 62 to 60. Ancer owns two professional victories: the 2015 Nova Scotia Open on the Web.com Tour and the 2018 Emirates Australian Open on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Born in McAllen, Texas, and raised in Reynosa, Mexico, Ancer owns dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship. He played at Odessa (Texas) Junior College and the University of Oklahoma, where he registered a pair of wins and posted the sixth-lowest scoring average in school history. He graduated in 2013 with a degree in general studies and turned pro the same year.
