Hoffman will get the chance to play a U.S. Open in his native San Diego after earning his place in the field by virtue of being among the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking as of June 7. Hoffman, who is making his eighth U.S. Open start, collected his fourth PGA Tour win in the 2016 Valero Texas Open in San Antonio. Other victories include the 2007 Bob Hope Classic (now CareerBuilder Challenge), 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Mexico and the 2010 Deutsche Bank Classic during the FedEx Cup Playoffs, where he shot a final-round 62. As an amateur, Hoffman helped UNLV win the 1998 NCAA Championship title. A graduate of Poway High, he captured a pair of California state high school titles in 1994 and 1995, becoming the first multiple champion. He also qualified three times for the Buick Invitational (now Farmers Insurance Open) as an amateur.
