Outdueled Phil Mickelson in an epic Sunday finish to claim The Open Championship at Royal Troon in 2016 for his first major championship. Stenson fired weekend rounds of 68-63 to best Mickelson by three strokes. A week after withdrawing from the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont, Stenson won the BMW International Open in Germany before his breakthrough win in Scotland. Stenson now has 21 worldwide victories, including The Players Championship in 2009. In 2013, Stenson won the FedExCup and Race to Dubai titles on the PGA and European tours, respectively. Has represented Europe on the 2006, 2008, 2014, 2016 and 2018 European Ryder Cup teams.
