Qualified for his fifth U.S. Open via the Roswell, Ga., sectional, garnering the final spot in a 2-for-1 playoff after shooting 1-under 143 at Ansley Golf Club's Settindown Creek Course. He turned professional in 2007 after an All-American career at Georgia Tech. He worked his way through the eGolf Tour and Nationwide Tour before gaining his PGA Tour card for the 2012 season after finishing 23rd on the Nationwide Tour's money list. In 2013, he shot a 63 in The Players Championship to equal what was then the course record at the TPC Sawgrass. He owns six professional victories, but has yet to break through on the PGA Tour. He was the runner-up to James Hahn in the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship, losing in a one-hole playoff, and to Bill Haas in the 2013 AT&T National. Although born in Texas, his father is from Peru and his mother is from Costa Rica. Castro is the nephew of former LPGA Tour player Jenny Lidback. At Georgia Tech, he played on two U.S. Palmer Cup Teams (2005 and 2006).
