The Columbus, Ohio, native and Ohio State alum traveled over to Springfield (Ohio) Country Club to earn his way to Torrey Pines. Hoag posted 6-under 134 to advanced to his first U.S. Open. He grew up just a few blocks from Jack Nicklaus' boyhood home and was the 2006 Ohio Player of the Year, and individual medalist on Upper Arlington High's Division I state title team. His 2019 victory at the WinCo Foods Portland Open in Oregon earned Hoag his PGA Tour card for the 2020-21 season. At his hometown Memorial Tournament June 3-6, Hoag tied for 13th, his best finish this year.
