The former UC Irvine golfer will play in his first U.S. Open after surviving both stages of the qualifying process. He advanced out of the local event at Ironwood Country Club and then posted 10-under 134 at the Lake Merced Golf Club final qualifier in Northern California. Despite being right-handed, he learned to play left-handed by mirroring his father, much the same way Phil Mickelson did. Chin was the runner-up to Jack Newman in the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links held at Murphy Creek in Aurora, Colo. Chin's best finish on the PGA Tour came in the 2019 Barracuda Championship, where he tied for third. He also has played on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Canada.
