The Indiana native will make his first U.S. Open start after surviving a 3-for-1 playoff for the fifth and final spot in the Atlanta, Ga., sectional conducted at the Piedmont Driving Club. Lamb, who shot 8-under 136, beat out Thomas Bass and 2019 USA Walker Cup competitor Alex Smalley for the spot, making an 8-foot birdie putt on the fourth extra hole to claim the berth. Born in South Bend, Lamb grew up playing both ice hockey and golf before enrolling at a golf academy in Bradenton, Fla., to focuse on golf. He transferred to the University of Tennessee after initially signing to play at Santa Clara University. The left-hander was the runner-up in the 2013 NCAA Championship for the Volunteers. His lone professional victory came in the 2016 LECOM Health Challenge on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour). He became the first Monday qualifier on that circuit to claim victory since Sebastian Cappelen at the 2014 Air Capital Classic.
