Earned his second U.S. Open start by winning the Barracuda Championship in early August, defeating Troy Merritt by one point in the Modified Stableford format. It was his first victory on the PGA Tour. The Georgia Tech graduate's previous victory came in the 2016 BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour). As an amateur, Werenski won the 2012 Porter Cup and qualified for the 2013 U.S. Amateur at The Country Club. He won Golf Channel's Big Break in 2015, which earned him a sponsor's exemption into the Barbasol Championship on the PGA Tour, finishing T-72 in his first start on that circuit.
