The English-born Horsfield will make his third U.S. Open start, but first as a professional, after shooting 12-under 132 in the Surrey, England, sectional qualifier conducted on the Old and New courses at Walton Heath Golf Club. Horsfield missed the cut in consecutive years (2015 and 2016) as an amateur. Horsfield's family moved to Florida when he was 5 years old and he eventually signed to play for the University of Florida. He was selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 2015 Walker Cup Match at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, but withdrew from the competition two weeks prior due to personal issues. He turned professional in 2017, but is still seeking his first victory. He represented the victorious European side in the 2016 Palmer Cup.
