F-21: Top 60 points leaders and ties in the Official World Golf Ranking, as of May 19
The member of the 2015 USA Walker Cup Team will make his sixth U.S. Open start, thanks to being inside the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 19. McCarthy nearly earned his first PGA Tour win at the Valero Texas Open a week before the 2024 Masters, making seven consecutive birdies on the back nine to force a playoff with Akshay Bhatia. But on the first playoff hole, he put his third shot on the par 5 into the penalty area fronting the green, leading to a double bogey. Three of his four professional wins have come in the Maryland Open. He also won the 2018 Web.com Tour Championship. McCarthy attended the University of Virginia. He represented his country in the 2014 World Amateur Team Championship. His three other siblings all competed at the Division I level. His brother, Ryan, played golf at Loyola University in Maryland, and his sister, Cristina, played lacrosse at James Madison and Georgetown. Another sister, Michaela played lacrosse at Virginia Tech.
