Bio

The Japan Golf Tour member earned his second U.S. Open berth after being added to the field on June 9 as the first alternate from the Japan final qualifier. He shot 9-under-par 135 before being involved in a 4-for-1 playoff for the last available spot. He wound up as the first alternate. Kawamoto owns two career victories in Japan, both coming in 2022 at the Vantelin Tokai Classic and the Sansan KBC Augusta. This year, he has two top-5 finishes on the circuit, including a tie for second in the Mizuno Open. He turned professional in 2021 after graduating from Nippon Sports Science University. His sister, Yui, tied for 36th in this year's U.S. Women's Open Presented by Ally at Erin Hills. She also played in last year's U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster Country Club.
