The grandson of 1935 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion Frank Strafaci captured the 120th U.S. Amateur last August at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon. Strafaci rallied to defeat Charles Osborne, 1 up, in the 36-hole final, becoming the second consecutive Georgia Tech golfer (and fourth overall) to hoist the Havemeyer Trophy. Andy Ogletree won in 2019, following Matt Kuchar in 1997 and five-time champ Bob Jones. Strafaci won his last four matches on Bandon Dunes' par-5 closing hole. Strafaci took advantage of the USGA's new rule allowing the reigning U.S. Amateur to play the ensuing U.S. Open as a professional. He made his professional debut at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May a week after helping the USA retain the Walker Cup at Seminole Golf Club. Strafaci's mother, Jill, played collegiately at the University of Florida and worked in the front office of the Miami Dolphins under former owner Joe Robbie. His father, Frank, has qualified for multiple USGA championships.
