Herrera will make his first U.S. Open start after surviving a 2-for-1 playoff for the final spot at the Valencia Country Club qualifier. Herrera and Lucas Carper had to continue the playoff into Tuesday morning due to darkness. Herrera got to final qualifying after shooting a 69 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., on May 12. He has played in one Korn Ferry Tour event in 2025, tying for 49th at the Veritex Bank Championship in Texas. A native of Fillmore, Calif., he graduated from St. Bonaventure High in Ventura County. He played collegiately first at Ventura College and then at Cal State University-East Bay. At Ventura College, he was named the Western State Conference Player of the Year as a freshman in 2017. His stroke average of 72.93 was the best on the team at Cal State-EB as a senior in the 2019-20 season. He was a two-time all-conference selection in his two seasons at East Bay. Without any full-time status, Herrera competes on a variety of mini-tours, including the All Pro Tour and Asher Tour. His father, Bill, played golf at the University of Southern California, and his sister, Megan Herrera, is a tournament director for the LPGA Tour's JM Eagle LA Championship.
