Ortiz will make his second U.S. Open start after shooting 8-under 133 in the Dallas, Texas, sectional conducted at Bent Tree Country Club and The Northwood Club. He missed the cut in the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club. The former University of North Texas standout posted three Web.com Tour victories in 2014 to earn a promotion to the PGA Tour. He was later voted the 2014 Web.com Tour Player of the Year. As an amateur, he represented Mexico in the 2010 and 2012 World Amateur Team Championships. He is the older brother of 2019 Latin America Amateur champion Alvaro Ortiz.
