Ended several years of disappointment in major championships with his three-stroke victory at Oakmont Country Club in 2016. In 2015 at Chambers Bay, Johnson came to the 72nd hole needing birdie to force an 18-hole playoff with Jordan Spieth, but he three-putted from 12 feet. Ascended to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking with his five-stroke victory in the 2017 Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club and then won the WGC-Mexico Championship two weeks later, becoming the fifth player to win in his first start as the world's No. 1 player. Followed that up with victory in WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club, giving him titles in all four WGC events. Started 2018 by winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua in Hawaii. The former Coastal Carolina All-American also has represented the USA on three Ryder Cup and three Presidents Cup teams. He also was a member of the victorious 2007 USA Walker Cup Team at Royal County Down.
