U.S. Open Local Qualifying By the Numbers

With entries now officially closed for the 123rd U.S. Open Championship, we now have the official local qualifying numbers as provided by the USGA’s championship administration department. A total of 9,693 hopefuls are vying for a total of 530 spots from the 109 18-hole sites.

The largest field is in Cincinnati, Ohio, where 156 golfers will compete for eight spots at Coldstream Country Club. Two sites in Metropolitan New York will have 144 players vying for eights spots: Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J., and Paramount Country Club in New City, N.Y.

The smallest field is in – no surprise given its location – Palmer, Alaska, where 16 players are vying for one precious spot at the Palmer Golf Course. That is the final local qualifier on May 22, six days after the first 36-hole final qualifier is scheduled in Surrey, England at Walton Heath G.C. That also is the same day final qualifiers are set for Dallas, Texas, and Japan.
