The Spokane, Wash., native earned his second U.S. Open start, and first in 12 years, after surviving a 3-for-2 playoff in the Milton, Ontario, Canada, sectional after shooting 4-under 140 at RattleSnake Point Golf Club. His lone professional victory to date is the 2009 Michael Hill New Zealand Open on the Nationwide Tour (now Web.com Tour). Prugh was a three-time first-team All-Pacific-10 Conference selection for the University of Washington. Prugh also won the 2004 Washington State Amateur and the 2005 Pacific Coast Amateur. His father, Steve, is the PGA professional at Manito Golf & Country Club in Spokane, and his mother, Susan, is a volunteer USGA Rules official. His older brother, Corey, also played at the University of Washington.
