The Edmond, Okla., native and Oklahoma State sophomore earned his first U.S. Open start by surviving a 3-for-2 playoff in the Dallas, Texas, sectional at Bent Tree Country Club and The Northwood Club. Eckroat birdied the first playoff hole after shooting 4-under 137. He earned an exemption out of local qualifying by virtue of being in the top 50 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Eckroat competed at Pebble Beach in last year's U.S. Amateur, missing the playoff for the final match-play spot by one stroke. In 2017, he earned medalist honors in the U.S. Junior Amateur at Flint Hills National Golf Club, falling in the quarterfinals to future OSU teammate Matthew Wolff. Before coming to Pebble Beach, he represented the USA in the Palmer Cup at The Alotian Club in Arkansas. Last year, he was a member of the NCAA-champion Oklahoma State squad that took the title on its home course (Karsten Creek).
