Broin will make his U.S. Open debut after surviving both states of qualifying, including a 3-for-2 playoff for the final spots in the Columbus, Ohio, final qualifier at the Ohio State University Golf Club. He shot 9-under 133 over 36 holes after advancing from the Westwood Country Club local qualifier in St. Louis. The University of Kansas senior is believed to be the first active Jayhawk to tee it up in a major championship. Gary Woodland, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, is a KU alum. Broin transferred to KU after two seasons at Colorado State. He qualified for the 2021 and 2022 U.S. Amateur Championships. In 2019, he won the Minnesota Junior PGA Championship. He is a Minnesota native.
