F-5: Runner-up in 2024 U.S. Amateur
The Naples, Fla., resident earned his place in the field by virtue of being the runner-up in the 124th U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club, in Chaska, Minn. Kent was defeated by Spaniard Jose Luis Ballester, 2 down, in the 36-hole championship match. Kent, who played his first 1.5 seasons of golf at the University of Iowa before transferring this spring to the University of Florida, drew a large contingent of Hawkeye fans who made the short drive to Minnesota. Kent was competing in his first USGA championship. He also was coming off a runner-up showing in the Porter Cup. In 2023, he was the runner-up in the Western Junior. His father, David, competed in the 1990 U.S. Junior Amateur, while his stepfather, Dana Fry, is a well known golf course architect who collaborated with Michael Hurdzan and Ron Whitten on Erin Hills, site of the 2025 U.S. Women's Open and 2017 U.S. Open.
