Holmes, who did not qualify for last year's championship, climbed back into the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking on the strength of his fifth PGA Tour victory, the 2019 Genesis Open at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Holmes developed vertigo symptoms at the 2011 PGA Championship and later underwent brain surgery for a condition known as Chiari malformations. He underwent a second brain surgery in Baltimore after suffering an allergic reaction to the titanium plate that was inserted into his brain. Holmes returned to the PGA Tour in January 2012. He was a member of the victorious 2005 USA Walker Cup Team and also played on the victorious 2008 and 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup Teams, and winning 2015 U.S. Presidents Cup Team. One of the longest hitters in golf. Holmes was so talented as a youth that he played on the varsity golf team at Taylor County (Ky.) High while in third grade.
