The former UCLA standout broke through for his first PGA Tour victory at the 2024 Mexican Open by two strokes over Sami Valimaki. Prior to that, Knapp won three times on PGA Tour Canada, the last coming in the 2022 CRMC Championship. He turned professional in 2016 and played on PGA Tour Canada from 2016-19 and again in 2022. This will be his third start in the U.S. Open; he qualified for the 2015 championship at Chambers Bay as an amateur. Three years earlier, he shot a 61 in a local U.S. Open qualifier at Newport Beach (Calif.) Country Club. Knapp spent nearly ninth months as a security guard at nightclub from the fall of 2021 to the spring of 2022.
