The Oklahoma State graduate will compete in his third U.S. Open by virtue of being among the top five players in the 2025 FedExCup standings, not otherwise exempt, as of May 19. Stevens owns one professional victory on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica (2021 Holcim Colombia Classic). In 2025, he finished runner-up in the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open to Ludvig Aberg at Torrey Pines, and was third in the CJ Byron Nelson in Texas. He also was the runner-up in the 2023 Valero Texas Open in San Antonio. He is a third-generation tour pro. His grandfather, Johnny, made 30 PGA Tour starts in the 1960s and his father, Charlie, had two Korn Ferry Tour starts in 1992. He helped Kansas win the USGA Men's State Team Championship in 2010 at Mayacama Golf Club. At Oklahoma State University, Sam Stevens was a member of the 2018 NCAA title team. He became the third member of his family to win the Kansas Amateur (2015), following his grandfather (1960-61) and father (2010). His grandfather also competed in the 1969 U.S. Open at Champions Golf Club.
