The rising Oregon State junior qualified for his first U.S. Open after negotiating his local qualifier in Bremerton, Wash., and then earning one of three available spots in the Walla Walla, Wash., sectional. Tibbits, who shot a 7-under 65 on Gold Mountain's Olympic Course in local qualifying, finished at 7-under 134 at Wine Valley Golf Club. During his high school career at Fort Vancouver High School, he won three Washington 3A state titles. He is the third Oregon State golfer to qualify for the U.S. Open following Anthony Arvidson (2003) and Nick Sherwood (2012). His scoring average of 71.65 in 2018-19 was the sixth-lowest in program history. He was also the first Beaver to earn All-Pac-12 honors in five seasons.
