The former Texas A&M standout will make his U.S. Open debut after getting into the field as the first alternate from the Dallas final qualifier. Phillips was involved in a 6-for-1 playoff for the last spot and wound getting first-alternate status. While at A&M, he joined Bryce Molder as the only Americans to be selected to play in the Palmer Cup three consecutive times. He won seven tournaments at College Station, including four in his junior season. He is a former college roommate of PGA Tour winner and 2017 USA Walker Cupper Cameron Champ. Phillips was an alternate for the 2019 USA Walker Cup Team. He still is seeking his first professional win, but has made more than $3.7 million during his career. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he received putting lessons from multiple PGA Tour winner Rickie Fowler.
